Garlic Shrimp Scampi Linguine

I originally happened upon this recipe from Julie's Eats & Treats, which I'm mentioning just to be fair although the recipe is actually straight from McCormick.

You can just see the goodness that's there.

I'm going to give you a slightly modified version of McCormick's recipe because I think that there was enough garlic butter and shrimp to cover double the pasta and when I make this again, I'm going to make the amount of pasta that I'm putting in this post.

Garlic Butter Shrimp Scampi Linguine

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces linguine
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
  • 12 ounces extra small shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 package McCormick Garlic Butter Shrimp Scampi Seasoning Mix
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or 2 tablespoons white wine

Directions

  1. Cook pasta as directed on package and drain well.
  2. Place shrimp in cold water in order to thaw out. After about five minutes, pull all of the tails off.
  3. Meanwhile......heat oil & butter in a large skillet on medium heat until butter is melted. Stir well. Add shrimp. I used cooked shrimp but if you are using uncooked, make sure that the shrimp turn pink (you can see the shrimps I used to the right). Stir in seasoning mix.
  4. Add lemon juice or wine. I skipped this step because surprisingly I did not have any white wine at the house (I pretty much always do).
  5. Toss the pasta with the shrimp and garlic butter sauce.
  6. Serve with freshly grated cheese, or if you're like me, the frozen stuff you have in your freezer.

Choosing a color palette/decorating style

One of the best things you can do to create unity within your new apartment is to choose to incorporate some sort of color palette and decorating style throughout all of your rooms. Carrying this palette throughout will make your house seem well thought out and carefully executed versus kind of thrown together...even if you got half of your furniture second-hand and your wall decorations are all DIY.

A good place to start looking for inspiration is Pinterest, particularly within the Home Decor category

You're probably going to realize that you like a lot of things that don't go together at all. You also have to think about the kind of vibe that you want to feel when you're in your house. For example, I love the color pink, and my old room had a bright pink wall in it. That was great and all except for the fact that I really wanted a nice, calm, serene environment to relax in. So I started recognizing that I wanted something that looks like this:

I would almost call it something along the lines of "Coastal Luxe." It's very reminiscent of kind of a beachy, coastal type of color scheme, only instead of the sand and the seashells I've got little pops of gold and silver and sparkles.

I narrowed my major colors down to: white, beige, blue, green, taupe, silver, and gold. While the white, beige, and taupe are just kind of neutrals, I feel that they're still important in my scheme.

But this is my scheme. Back to yours.

Besides browsing and pinning rooms from Pinterest, there are a few different ways to browse for a potential color scheme. You can try this quiz, for one. It's a pretty good one from Real Simple. Figure out what you like and then hope it doesn't involve expensive furniture because that's going to be hard to do on a dime.

Cultivate images and use these as inspiration. Remember, you're not going to be able to afford expensive drapes and perfect furniture. But you will use these as a guide.

Soon to follow: using your decorating style & color palette to acquire furniture.

Grand Re-Launching.

I am currently working on a complete update and re-launching of Holly's Wonderland.

Because things are different now.

I'm not a college kid trying to pass my finals.

I'm a trying to figure out what I'm going to cook for dinner.

I've deleted the majority of my old posts unless they had something to do with what I'm going to be posting about nowadays (or if they were one of my more popular posts, I kept them).

I'm going to talk about food, home decor, organizing, cleaning, budgeting....and all of that stuff.

It's a lot more fun than it sounds.

Here's a shot of Harper in my living room. You can see a teensy bit of what's going on in there....

Also, I'm going to be talking about my dog a lot.

Just warning you.
